This week in my Middle School Sunday School Class (Grades 6-8) we have been learning how to pray using the example of Jesus' "Pattern for Prayer" taught to his disciples in Luke 11:1-4.  Jesus, the Master Teacher, asks us to pray and then gives us the "how to."

  • Relationship-We share our hearts with a personal God, a Father (Abba=daddy) who is all-knowing, all powerful, and always there.  He is holy, pure, and infinitely above human beings.
  • Submission-We enter prayer with reverence and a willingness to do His will.  We should want His will to be done in the world and in us individually.
  • Dependence-God wants us to be dependent upon Him for our daily, shelter, patience, wisdom, discernment, guidance.  He is a good and gracious Father who is so willing to give us our daily needs and often our wants if they align with His will.
  • Forgiveness-He was us to confess and ask forgiveness for our sins.  He also wants us to extend forgivess to others.  An unforgiving spirit will lead to a bitter heart.
  • Deliverance-We must be humble enough to realize we cannot resist temptation on our own.  We need God's protection from the evil one whose aim is to destroy us.
We all need more practice praying.  I am attaching a design for a "Quiet Time" that I put together which incorporates all of the above.  I pray that it will be useful to you.  If you would like a copy of this Quiet Time Form in an 5.5" x 8.5" format, please email me,  and I will gladly attach it to a return email.
