Beauty of the Desert

The blossoming desert...Pink Easter Lily Cactus (Echinopsis eyriesii)

When we  moved to the Sonoran Desert eight years ago, I felt sad to leave my beautiful perennial gardens of Central New York.  Can I tell you how exited I was when I saw our first cactus bloom.  I had no idea that they would be so beautiful.  I can remember running into the house beseeching my husband to come take a look at the flowering cacti.   Sadly their blossoms only last for a short period of time and often some just overnight.  Nevertheless, they are so beautiful when the do bloom.
