Menu for the Month of February 2012

Have a Blessed Day,

Diary of Five

A diary of 5 is a sister community to The Simple Woman's DaybookA diary of 5 was created to give your senses a gentle work-out, to help you to become more aware of those little moments around you.

I am seeing...
my bright yellow tea kettle sitting on the range top
beckoning me to light a fire under it and to brew
 a nice cup of tea.

I am hearing...
soothing, relaxing music on my blog play list:
"After the Rain" by Kevin Kern.

I am smelling...
the aroma of that spot of tea that was beckoning me,
Celestial Seasons Honey Vanilla Chamomile Tea.

I tasted...
Honey Vanilla Chamomile Tea and
chocolate peanut butter hearts,  Yumm!

I am feeling...
like I have accomplished much this week!
Rearranged two bedrooms, sewed dust ruffle for new queen
bed and a lovely pillow covering from an antique towel, hemmed curtains,
framed pictures, hung new mirror, recovered and trimmed a lamp shade,
organized sewing Hoosier, changed bed linens, laundry baskets empty,
and in all rooms-dusted, swept, vacuumed, and mopped floors, planned
monthly menus, grocery shopped for the month, prepared my Middle
School Sunday School lesson on angels (such a great study), and
completed four of my eight days of Bible study of Ephesians,
"In Heavenly Places", written by our Pastor's wife and dear friend
(that is so awesome also...
God's Word is amazing...
I absolutely love studying It)!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for:

86.  My dearest friend, Linda, who called me on last Saturday morning to go to Ikea to see my favorite
designer, Stephen Saint-Onge.  I was planning on not going as I was not feeling up to par and felt I
should not make the trip alone.  To my great surprise, she said, "Do you want to go to Ikea today?" I
didn't even know that she was aware that I wanted to go. She had checked out my blogpost earlier in the
week and knew just how much I wanted to be there.  What a friend!  What a day!  Can't think of anyone
that I would rather spend a Saturday with than...Stephen Saint-Onge and especially my dearest friend,
Linda!  How I appreciate and love this woman!

87. Designer Dad, Stephen Saint-Onge.  How delightful it was to meet him at Ikea
in Tempe, AZ.  Can I tell you that he was so inspiring!   His presentation on
"Steps to an Attainable Family-Friendly Living Room Makeover" was
fabulous!  Not only did we receive a signed copy of his new book, "No Place
Like Home", but also a lovely gift bag from Ikea  loaded  with goodies!  Linda
and I were so inspired that we started picking paint colors for our rooms
(she's already hired the painter.)  I did some much needed uncluttering and
      rearranging.

88.  Our Monday morning Ladies' Bible Study.  We have just finished up with
"Growing Through Crisis" by Martha Tyler.  It has been a very problematic
year for us, and how we needed God's insights for this time in our lives.
Loved the reminder to, "Gaze at God glance at your problems."
He IS the answer to all our fears and problems! Bottom line...Pray and Press On!

89.   Laughter. I love to laugh!   How fun it is when we gather with friends and have a session of good ole
belly laughs.  It does lighten the spirit and is such good medicine!

90.  Pinterest, a most wonderful creative play space.  Okay, I admit I am an Pinterest addict!  Ideas, ideas,
ideas...my mind is exploding!  Check out my creative play space--just click the Pinterest button below:

Simply Sweet - Sweet Find

Earthenware by Faria & Bento

Love these bowls that I purchased at Marshalls, all three for under $25.00...a sweet buy!    These white earthenware bowls were handcrafted by Faria & Bento in Portugal and are amazingly very light in weight.
I have this love for chickens and roosters so these were a must have.  This buy did sweeten my day!

Diary of Five

                                                                                                   Dairy of 5

I am seeing...
dim lights, candle flickering.

I am hearing...
my dog's nails rhythmically clicking on the tile floor.

I am smelling...
the aroma of a fresh brewed cup of coffee.
 I love coffee!

I tasted...
homemade almond biscotti.  Yumm!

I am feeling...
happy!  My husband just brought me a bag of my favorite
fruit snacks from the dollar store.  Doesn't take much to
keep me happy.  He's my Dollar Hero!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for:

81.  A new year, 2012!  Another year ahead to:
  • love and serve our amazing and awesome Lord,
  • trust the Lord for His provision for all things,
  • sit at the feet of Jesus, via His Word, and learn of Him (He's the source of all wisdom),
  • share life with my loving and dear husband, my best friend and companion,
  • share life with the dearest family on earth,
  • share life with friends close and far away,
  • enjoy God's amazing creation,
  • be a "keeper of my home" and to be able to enjoy my love for homemaking, crafting, gardening, sewing, and entertaining.
82.  This past Christmas season and the reminder that Christ came with a purpose...to die on Calvary's cross
for the payment for our sins, and that we may have new life in Him, abundant and free!  My prayer for
this new year is that the Lord would use me to share the joy of knowing Christ as Savior with a needy
world.  I am so thankful for the incredible difference He has made in my life.  If we have Jesus, we have
       everything we need!

83.  The new series of sermons at VBC..."Fit for Life!"   It has already been so helpful and encouraging!
May the Lord do a good work in me through this series, and I look forward to being transformed into
a Child of God, Fit for Life.  You  might enjoy listening to the series at http://victoryarizona.org.

84.  Great free resources-the Internet with a wealth of instant information and the library systems, local and
online that help us to be "life-long learners," and  Facebook and Skype that are able to keep us
connected with family and friends, near and far, on a daily basis.

85.  Books and great authors!  Fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, and magazines.  TV, radio, computers,
       telephones, and amazing technology!

We have sooo much!  We are a blessed people!

Simply Sweet - Fruit-Filled Blessings!

Fruit-filled Blessings!

It's grapefruit producing time here in Arizona, and we were blessed to have friends unload their bumper crop on our church family.  Our church foyer was just loaded with citrus for the taking.  Thought you might enjoy knowing some of the health benefits of Grapefruit.

Grapefruit have amazing benefits!   They will control your hunger and allow your body to use the carbohydrates you eat more efficiently.

Key Benefits

1- Half a grapefruit has over 100mg of fresh Vitamin C in a form your body will appreciate unlike the pill forms, this makes them an ideal breakfast fruit and they are available year round unlike oranges so they can be a staple of your diet.
2- Grapefruits also help dissolve in-organic calcium that may have developed around your joints this is thanks to their organic salicylic acid. So they are great if you have any joint pain or arthritis…
3- Powerful Liver Tonic, Awesome for the mornings after you partied too hard…
4- They Aid in the Digestion of food, this is thanks to the acidic properties they have. As mentioned earlier I usually will have half a grapefruit after a big meal I find its one of the best digestives going….
5- Grapefruits are rich in lycopene (the red color/pigment) and Limonoids, it helps to prevent to occurrence of tumors and cancer. These two compounds are hard to find in other fruits and vegtables but appear in abundance in grapefruits.
6- They contain a Flavonoid called Naringin which grapefruits are full of, and gives them their bitter taste. Although it can also be found in other citrus fruits none contain such high levels.
It seems that Naringin works in a few ways to help:
      1.   Stimulates the Liver
       2.  Improves Insulin Sensitivity
       3.  Helps to Metabolise Fat
The bitter taste that Naringin provides stimulates the liver to produce fat burning enzymes that would normally only be produced via prolonged fasting.  Now while fasting is a good approach for some others may not be too keen on the idea, what is for sure though is that the effects of fasting do trigger some kind of express fat loss and improved glucose tolerance.
… What more could we ask for??  Enjoy your grapefruit!  I love them topped with agave nectar (or brown sugar) and broiled in the oven for a breakfast eyeopener!
Caution:  Be warned, those taking pharmaceutical medications please beware of eating grapefruit as it has many drug interactions.  Grapefruit is best partaken by those free of medication or check with your doctor.

Six Needs You Will Have in 2012

I thought this was such a great post for the New Year that I thought I would repost this devotional writing by Roy Lessin.  I so enjoy his Meet Me In the Meadow site.  Hope you enjoy!
May God richly bless you in the coming year.

Meet Me in the Meadow: Devotional Excerpt by Roy Lessin
One thing you can be certain about in the coming year is that you can't be certain about what is ahead. This is a great blessing, because you do not need to know. To know what is ahead and the details of what will happen would be too great a burden to carry and too great a responsibility to bear.
What you do need to know about the future is not what is ahead of you, but Who is ahead of you. It is the Lord who goes before you, is ahead of you, and is preparing the way for you. Your future is in His sure, strong, caring hands.
I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you. Genesis 28:15 NLT
As you pass through the door of 2011 and enter the door of 2012, here are six of the needs you are certain to have...
1. There will be the need for prayer
2. There will be the need to trust
3. There will be the need to obey
4. There will be the need to forgive
5. There will be the need to be faithful
6. There will be the need for Jesus
Devotional excerpt by Roy Lessin. Read the full message on his blog: Meet Me In The Meadow.
