Matt. 12:34 teaches that what comes out of our mouths depends on what is inside our hearts.
The human heart is like a treasury, and what we speak reveals what is in there.
We have the choice to use good words that will encourage, uplift and heal or
to use bad words that discourage, hurt, and cause pain.
What would our words indicate about our hearts?
Let's consider our words....
Bless To speak well of. The Greek word for bless is made up of two words: the words for well (ev) and the word for word (logos), so to bless is to say "well words."
Honor To value - to esteem highly.
Glorify To magnify, extol, to make glorious as a result of a high opinion.
Note: Blessing, honoring, glorifying are basically the same. However, it seems that to honor is more highly concentrated than to bless, and to glorify is higher than to honor. However, if we bless, honor and glorify God, we usually do it by speaking of Him to men, and acting in such a way that He is exalted by us to others.
Thank Express gratitude for things done or given to us, to the one who did it.
Praise Express approval of what a person is to the person himself.
Complain Discontentment in one's life.
Grumble To mutter, murmur, says something in a low tone. It is often done by one person to another about a third person.
Backbiting Comes from two Greek words, kata (against) and laleo (speak). It is speaking against another.
Judge To past sentence on another, to condemn.
Blaspheme To speak contemptuously of. In the New Testament is is particularly confined to speech
defamatory of God.
Note: Complaining, grumbling, backbiting, judging are usually done by us about other to others. Blaspheming is directed usually straight against God. Truly all complaining is against God for He is the cause of all things.
