30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 16

I am thankful for Computer Technology!

Yesterday my laptop battery was draining and the AC adapter was not working to recharge the battery.  So I went one whole day without the use of my computer.  I am amazed at how dependent I have become on this piece of technology, and how thankful I am when it is operating!

I am thankful that the WWW and my computer help me to:

  • Stay in touch with family and friends on a daily basis through e-mail and Skype.
  • Socialize on Facebook and Google Friends around the world.
  • Create a blog and connect with blogging friends to get a visual clip of their hearts and homes.
  • Read the latest news and check the weather forecasts.
  • Research any topic.
  • Help plan meals and to find and store recipes.
  • Plan trips by land or air--book hotel/motel rooms, make reservations for car rentals, airline flights, GPS's, etc.
  • Create crafty projects...scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, interior & exterior decorating, etc.
  • Keep track of our finances and do online banking.
  • Store, edit photos and make scrapbook pages, programs, bookmarks, greeting cards, etc.
  • Develop reports and make visual presentations.
  • Listen to music and to view videos.
  • Store images, videos and objects on my pinboard on Pinterest and network with other pinboards.
  • Study the scriptures using online Bibles and commentaries and to download Biblical messages and sermons.
Looking back on that list, it does seems extraordinary that we have this technology at our finger tips each and every day.  We are blessed!

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 15

I am thankful for My Husband!
Jr. Dinner Dance 1963

Ephesians 5:25
"Husbands love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself up for her."

Ephesians 5:28-29
"So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies.  He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church."

He is the most important person in my life.  I love him, I need him, and I will treasure him always.  Some of the best moments of my life have been spent with him.  I am so grateful for the wonderful years (50 years) we have shared together.  I am so thankful for his wonderful sense of humor that just breaks the seriousness of life's most difficult moments.  He does keep me smiling!  He does live out the verses in Ephesians by making me feel so loved, protected, and cherished.  He does take very good care of me and I am so grateful for that!

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for giving me this wonderful man of God to share my life with.  How I do love and cherish him, and am grateful for the many years that we have shared.  I am a blessed woman!  In Jesus Name, Amen!

Have a Blessed Day,

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 14

I am thankful for the crispness of Fall Mornings!
It is the summer's great last heat,
It is the fall's first chill: They meet.
–Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt

Ecclesiastes 3:1 "To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven."

This morning it is 48 degrees to be warming up to 81 degrees in the afternoon.  After the long, hot summer here in the low desert, how good it is to be outside more often and to be able to enjoy this perfect weather.  We have been trimming trees, cutting back cacti, shaping bushes, and planting seeds. How good it seems to be able to have breakfast on the patio, and to kick back in the warmth of the afternoon sun to read a book.

These cool mornings were made for baking...some popovers (with butter and jam) or scones to have with mid-morning coffee break.  And how we love favored coffee made in the Keurig (pumpkin caramel and vanilla biscotti), and those favored creamers (pumpkin spice and pecan praline).  Yumm.

Heaven Father, Thank You for this beautiful fall day!  Amen!

Have a Blessed Day,

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 13

I am thankful for the assurance of Heaven.

"Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither."
 by C. S. Lewis

Revelation 21:1-4
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the Throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be his people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’ He who was seated on the Throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’”

Revelation 22:3-5
"And there shall no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His bond-servants shall serve Him; and they shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. And there shall no longer be any night; and they shall not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God shall illumine them; and they shall reign forever and ever."

Philippians 3:20-21
"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself."

WE WILL BE WITH CHRIST - Revelation 22:4
WE WILL NO LONGER SIN -Philippians 1:6
WE WILL STILL EAT AND TOUCH - John 20:27, John 21:10-15

"When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be,
When we all see Jesus, we sing and shout the Victory."
I can't help but shout, HALLELUJAH!

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me."

John 3:16
" For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life."

The way to Heaven is as easy as A-B-C:

Admit that you are a sinner and need forgiveness.
Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave to bring you to God.
Confess, through prayer, that Jesus Christ is the only way to God, and commit to live for Him the rest of your life.
  • God loves you and wants a personal relationship with you. "" (John 3:16 NIV)
  • Our sin keeps us from having a personal relationship with God. "" (Romans 3:23 NIV)
  • Jesus Christ is the only answer to this problem. He’s the only one who can bring us back to God. "" (1 Peter 3:18 NIV)
  • You must personally trust Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and determine to obey Him for the rest of your life. (John 1:12 NIV)

Read these words as a prayer to God and mean them in your heart:

Dear Lord Jesus,
I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the grave to give me life. I know You are the only way to God, so help me to quit disobeying You and to start living for You. Please forgive me, change my life, and make yourself real to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Dear Heavenly Father, How thankful I am that I know that one day I will be spending Eternity with you!  How wonderful it will be to see Jesus face to face and to praise and thank Him, and Serve Him for all eternity.  What a great day that will be!  In Jesus Name, Amen

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 12

I am thankful for our Veterans!

John 15:13
"Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

How very thankful I am for those in our nation and around the world who have served and are now serving in the armed forces to protect our freedom.

Take A Moment To Thank A Veteran
When you see someone in a uniform,
Someone who serves us all,
Doing military duty,
Answering their country’s call,
Take a moment to thank them
For protecting what you hold dear;
Tell them you are proud of them;
Make it very clear.
Just tap them on the shoulder,
Give a smile, and say,
"Thanks for what you’re doing
To keep us safe in the USA!"
By Joanna Fuchs

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the courageous, selfless military servants who protect our freedom.  Guard over their lives and protect them from all harm.  We are thankful for those who have laid down their lives for us.  God please bless them and their families and God, bless America.  In Jesus Name, Amen

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 11

I am thankful for Sundays.

Hebrews 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day approaching.

I am thankful for Sundays, a day set apart to worship our God, and fellowship with like-minded Christians, to have the freedom and the privilege to worship at a church of our choosing. If we want to be a growing Christian, we must be an active part of the church to help one another, to encourage one another, to pray for one another and to challenge one another as we anticipate His return.  We need church, and the church needs us.  Church is not a museum for saints but a hospital for sinners...a gathering of imperfect people serving a perfect God.

What does a WELL, strong, God-honoring church look like:

Worshipping Church - To bring Glory and Honor to God - God inhabits the praise of His people
Evangelistic Church - To reach out to share the Gospel to those in need
Learning Church - To hear the preaching & teaching of the Word in person
Loving Church -  To  fellowship, serve, grow, and care for one another

Heavenly Father, Thank You for Sundays, the first day of the week set aside to honor and worship You. Thank you for the Church, we, the body of imperfect people who come to worship and serve You, a  perfect God.  May we heed your command to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together as we anticipate your earthly return.  In Jesus Name, Amen

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 10

I Thankful for Quite Moments.

"Be still and know that I am God!"

When we previously lived in New York and would vacation in Arizona, we would spend a couple of days with our friends, the DeJongs.  In the afternoon, Cindy would disperse the children to their respective rooms for an hour of quite time each day.  We followed likewise and to our surprise, we rather enjoyed those moments of solitude...moments to read, rest or reflect.   We continue with that blessed routine of drawing away from the fast pace of our life and spending an hour of silence and reflection.   These wonderful moments of rest and relaxation are so restorative.

How great is is to find a few minutes in our day to find a quiet spot and to thank God for the gift of silence and solitude.  Perhaps it would be good for us to spend some time thinking of other reasons why we are grateful to God.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for those quite, peaceful moments in our days...times that we can pull away from the busyness of life for moments of silence, solitude, and reflection.   Whether it be an hour or just a few lone moments, we find them so restorative.  Thank you for teaching us to be STILL!  In Jesus name, Amen

"I never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude."
Henry David Thoreau

"God's voice is still and quiet and easily buried under an avalanche of clamour."

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 8

I am thankful for God's daily provision.

Matthew 6:9-13
"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

These are requests for physical needs, forgiveness of sins, and spiritual victories. The prayer ends with a new acknowledgement of God’s glory.  Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones has accurately written, “Our whole life is found there in those three petitions, and that is what makes this prayer so utterly amazing. In such a small compass our Lord has covered the whole life of the believer in every respect. Our physical needs, our mental needs and, of course, our spiritual needs are included. The body is remembered, the soul is remembered, the spirit is remembered. And that is the whole of man.”

Matthew 7:7-11
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you.  For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.  Is there anyone among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone:  Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake:  If you then, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heave give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!"

 Matthew 6:33
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."

Dear Heaven Father,  Thank You for Your daily provisions for my body, soul and spirit that come from Your gracious hand.  How very grateful I am, God, that You see my needs and provide so that I can focus on Your Kingdom work.  Thank you for your good gifts.  In Jesus Name, Amen

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 7

I am thankful for this day.

Ephesians 1:11
"It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.  Long before we first heard of Christ...he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose He is working out in everything and everyone."

Psalm 118:24
"This is the day that the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."

What is the day we rejoice and be glad in? The day that Jesus Christ became the sacrifice for our sins and became the cornerstone for us! It is the gate of the Lord that the righteous will enter. (verse 20) Not because of our righteousness, but the very righteousness of God that He gives us when we trust Jesus.
He has become our salvation! (verse 21) It’s the Lord’s doing. (verse 23) It is a gift we receive from Him. It is not deserved, but the benefit is HUGE! We become sons and daughters of God! We become co-heirs with Christ! We who come in the name of the Lord are blessed! (verse 26) God has given us the light of the world which is Jesus (verse 27) We give thanks to God because of His lovingkindness that will last forever! (verse 28 & 29)
So, yes,  I say rejoice in every day. It is a gift from God. But next time we hear someone say, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it,” think about what that really means. God’s only son who was God made flesh died for us so that we could enter into His presence and live there forever! The day that He did that for the whole world is worthy of our praise EVERY DAY indeed!!!
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the gracious opportunity of another day, a day appointed by You with purpose, a day to rejoice and to be glad for what You have done for me and the whole world.  Thank You for the gift of Your Son that affords me to be in His presence this day and for all eternity.  May each new day that You give me be one that serves Your purpose for me and brings glory to Your name.  In Jesus Name, Amen

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 6

I am thankful for Freedom!

Isaiah 61:1
"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,  because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted.  He has sent me to bind up he brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners."

Galatians 5: 1, 13
"Ir was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.  For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."

Thousands of men and women have died t home and abroad while protecting our country from those who would oppress us, or fighting to liberate other countries.  How very thankful we are for those men and women who have sacrificed on our behalf.  Freedom is always an expensive proposition, and this is equally true in a spiritual sense.  Even though we feel that we have the liberty to travel, to pursue activities of our liking, to speak up and voice our opinions, we are yet enslaved to all kinds of bondage.  Anger, stress, workaholism, bitterness, unforgiveness, depression, anxiety and fear can imprison us.

No nation is free until its people are free. And no person is free until he is free on the inside.  The truth is, there is only one way to be genuinely free.  John 8:36 says, "If Jesus Christ makes you free; you will be free indeed."  The greatest freedom is the freedom to live a Godly life through the power of the Holy Spirit--we are never fully free until the grace, goodness, and mercy of God become a reality in our personal experience. God's desire is that we would experience the freedom which comes from accepting His pardon and grace.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Jesus, Your only begotten Son, who gave His precious blood to purchase my freedom.  He has set me free from the power, the presence, and the penalty of sin.  Thank You, Father, that Your mercy, goodness, and grace are a reality in my life, and I am eternally grateful.  I am free, indeed!  May I not use this freedom as an opportunity to exercise my fleshly will, but through love to freely serve others.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Have a Blessed Day,

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 5

I am thankful for Friends!

"We need not set out in search for a friend...rather, we must simply set out to be the friend Christ modeled--anticipating the needs of others, wearing ourselves out at giving.  Jesus died doing it."
Jon MacKenzie

Proverbs 18:24
"There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."

Proverbs 27:9, 17
"Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend."

John 15:15
"I no longer call you servants...Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."  What a friend we have in Jesus!

Heavenly Father,  Thank You for my friends. Help me not take them for granted for my life would be but poor without them.  Help me to enrich their lives as they have mine.   Be with my friends when we can't be together.  Thank You that miles have no meaning in eternity.  I thank You for new friends that you send into my life.  Remind me that You have new ways to touch me through each person I meet.  Thank you, Father, for Jesus, what a friend we have in Him. There is no greater friend than One willing to lay down His life for another.  How very grateful I am that His great sacrifice has spared me from sin and self, and has brought me into an amazing intimate relationship with Him.  In Jesus Precious Name, Amen

Have a Blessed Day,

30 Days of Thanksgiving - Day 4

I am thankful for laughter!

Proverbs 15:13 , 15; 17:22

"A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed...All the days of the afflicted are bad, but a cheerful heart has a continual feast...A joyful heart is good medicine [the Hebrew says, 'causes good healing'] but a broken spirit dries up the bones."

Psalm 126:2
"Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nation, "The Lord has done great things for them."

Who doesn't appreciate a good laugh...the knee-slapping, rib-aching belly laugh.  Laughter is so infectious.  Go ahead, start with a big smile, then start to chuckle, are you laughing yet?  Our grandson smiles so big that we can't see his eyes.  Where is your big smile?  Come on!  A smile will increase your face value!

Laughter is truly good medicine.  When laughter is shared, it binds people together and increases happiness and intimacy. Laughter also triggers healthy physical changes in the body. Humor and laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy, diminish pain, and protect you from the damaging effects of stress.  Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use!

Heavenly Father,  How good it is to laugh.  Thank you, Father, for times of glad heartedness, joy, and laughter that lifts our spirits and lightens our days.  Thank You for providing us with such a great safety valve. Thank you for surrounding us with "funny, light-hearted people" who do lift our spirits.  Help us to remember to not take life too seriously and remind us of the necessity of a cheerful spirit."  In Jesus Name, Amen

"That's my only goal.
Surround myself with funny people, and make sure everyone has a good time and works hard."

30 days of Thanksgiving - Day 3

I am Thankful that I know Jesus!

Philippians 3:7-9
"But whatsoever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.  What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.  I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that come from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.  I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead."

Heavenly Father, "What can compare to knowing Jesus? I have been blessed beyond measure with the opportunity to know Him.   How good it is to remember that day in 1982 when I asked Christ to take over my life and to live His life through me. He has made such a incredible difference in my life.  Truly, Father, for to me to live is Christ, and to die gain (Philippians 1:21.)  Jesus is my reason to live and die (better yet to be with Him.)
To know Him as my Lord and Savior is a far greater gift than silver and gold, or turkey and stuffing!
More of You, Lord, More of You!
In Jesus Name, Amen

30 days of Thanksgiving - Day 2

I am thankful for the Comforting Word of God.
He is a God Who comes to the weak and hurting with strength (com-with, fort-strength).

 Psalm 119:49-52
"Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction: for Thy Word hath quickened me. The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from Thy law. I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself."
Romans 15:4
"For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope."

2 Corinthians 1:3-7
"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation."

1 Thessalonians 4:18
"Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

  •  It is a comfort that we can have God's power in our lives.
  •  It is a comfort that we can have God's leadership day by day.
  •  It is a comfort that we can have daily bread (spiritual and physical).
  •  It is a comfort that one day we will have a new body and be free from this one (Yahoo!)
  •  It is a comfort that we can have the peace of God in the midst of tribulation.
  •  There is great comfort in the Scriptures!

  •  God gives comfort through faith.
  •  God gives comfort through the Word of God.
  •  God gives comfort through other people.
  •  God gives comfort through us to others.

Heavenly Father, I need comforting from time to time and am so thankful that You care about me and what I go through from day to day.  When I am physically and emotionally needy, Your Word comforts me and strengthens me with hope to carry on.  Thank you, Father, for those who have come along side me and have comforted me.  Help me to be a comfort to those who may be in need of comforting.  I praise you for being the God of all comfort!  In Jesus name, Amen!

30 days of Thanksgiving - Day 1

I am so thankful for the goodness of the Lord!

Exodus 33:19
"And He said, 'I Myself will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you, and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.' "

Psalm 23:6
"Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life."

Psalm 31:19
"How great is Thy goodness, which Thou hast stored up for those who fear Thee, which Thou hast wrought for those who take refuge in Thee before the sons of men!"

Psalm 119:68
"Thou art good, and doest good."
God has in Himself an infinite and inexhaustible treasure of all blessedness
enough to fill all things.

Heavenly Father, You are such a good, gracious, compassionate, and merciful God!  How very thankful I am to be Your child and to be the recipient of Your immeasurable goodness.  Even in the darkest of days when I cannot see Your hand at work, I can have faith that You are working all things together for my good because You are a good God!
 In Christ name, Amen!
